And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” John 8:32
Could it be that when we feel particularly down and downcast, it is because we are believing the lies of the enemy and not the truth of God. When we feel defeated and believe we are defeated the pain is great. When we feel defeated but know that God is all powerful and bringing us out of it to something greater, our heart is lighter. We start to feel better. Perhaps it’s just the power of the brain and our thoughts. Neuroscience, right? Or maybe it is (also) God. God’s word says that the truth sets you free. When we are operating in lies, going against who we are and denying what is true, our hearts are heavy and bound. But when we know the truth, speak the truth, and live in that truth, something shifts. We feel free.
Who will you believe?

We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed. -2 Corinthians 4:8-9
However, as it is written: “What no eye has seen, what no ear has heard, and what no human mind has conceived”—the things God has prepared for those who love him—these are the things God has revealed to us by his Spirit. -1 Corinthians 2:9
